Frequently
Asked Questions
1. Do I have to be a Kaiser
Member to attend a course.
No. Our courses are held at Kaiser
locations throughout the Sacramento area, but all offerings
are available to the public.
2. Do the courses fulfill
the requirements for court ordered parenting classes?
Yes. Our courses are accepted by almost all
courts and agencies requiring parenting classes. However,
it is your responsibility to be sure. We suggest you check
with the court or agency, especially if the requirement
is through Child Protective Services (CPS). CPS, in some
counties, may require additional subject matter and/or classes.
3. Do all members of my
family have to be Kaiser members to receive the Kaiser rate?
No. As long as one of your immediate
family (living in the same household)is a current Kaiser
member, you qualify for the Kaiser rate.
4. 4. What time do classes
start?
7:00 P.M. All classes start at
7:00 P.M. and end at 9:00 P.M., except the Toddler class
which ends at 8:30 P.M.
5. Are the prices listed
the cost of the entire course or the price of each class session?
The entire course. The prices
listed are for the entire course and include all costs.
6. How many sessions are
in each course?
Active Parenting meets for 6
sessions.
Cooperative Parenting and Divorce meets for 8 sessions.
1, 2, 3, 4, Parents! meets for 4 sessions.
7. If I have to cancel my registration,
can I receive a refund of my registration fees?
Yes, however, we retain 10% the registration
fee to cover bank, transaction fees, and our accounting
time to cancel, refund, and mail your refund.
8. May I transfer my registration and
fees to another class?
Yes. You may transfer to another class if
that class is not already full.
9. May I transfer my registration and
fees a second, third, more times?
Yes. We will do our best to accommodate you,
and of course it depends on if the class you are transferring
to is already full. However, starting with the second transfer,
you will be assessed an additional $20 transfer fee each
time. Unfortunately, we have had people register, then transfer
several times, and eventually never attend a class. This
“taking up space” results in keeping others
from attending a class and causes us accounting time as
well. Please feel free to contact us if you require additional
information regarding this issue.
10. If I have to miss one of the class
sessions will I still receive a completion certificate?
Usually. This happens on occasion and we understand
that there are unplanned circumstances in life. However,
the completion certificate is based on attendance. One missed
session can usually be made up by a simple home assignment.
A second missed session may be made up at the discretion
of the instructor and may also require a reading fee. A
third missed session means you have to start over with a
new class. There are no exceptions to the third missed session
rule.
11. Do both co-parents have to attend
the Cooperative Parenting and Divorce class at the same time?
Not necessarily. We do not require both co-parents
to attend at the same time. Our experience has shown that
co-parents may be more comfortable, participate more, and
get more out of the class by attending the same class but
at different times. In addition, attending the same class,
but at different times, will provide both parents the same
curriculum and may allow more scheduling flexibility for
the children. Of course, if both parents are focused on
the best interest of their children, and can be reasonable
with each other during class, then attending at the same
time is very beneficial.
If you are court ordered to attend, it is
your responsibility to make sure you are following the court
order. Some courts (judges) want both parents at the same
class at the same time. Some courts (judges) want both parents
to attend the same class but it could be at different times.
Some courts (judges) allow each parent to attend totally
different classes. To be absolutely clear, it is
your responsibility to make sure you are meeting any court
requirements.
12. Can children attend the classes
with parents?
No. Our classes are for the parents only.
13. If I need another completion certificate
for a class I previously attended, may I obtain new one?
Yes, however, we will need
to know which class you attended, the class location, and
the approximate dates of the class. Because we will have
to verify attendance, make a replacement certificate, and
mail it to you, there is a $20 replacement fee. Please
safeguard your original.
